CARDINAL NUMBERS

Cardinal numbers are simply natural numbers used to denote quantity. Here are the numbers from 1-100 in Italian, along with some other useful figures. 

After venti (20) numbers follow a very logical format, for example: venti + due = ventidue
You may notice that the numbers 21, 28, 31, 38, 41, 48 and so on... do not double up on vowels,
so we say: trentuno not trentauno

Take note: in Italian we switch the punctuation used to separate numbers and figures, using a period to separate numbers of 1,000 and above and a comma to denote cents.
ex:   $2,999.95 (U.S. figures) -----> €2.999,95 (Italian figures)

ORDINAL NUMBERS

Ordinal Numbers are natural numbers used to denote the position of something in a list, ex: first, second, third...
While in English ordinal numbers are indicated by adding a "suffix" (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...), in Italian ordinal numbers are indicated with a symbol:
 - 1°, 2°, 3°, 4°... (when generally counting or in agreement with a masculine noun:  il 4° piano  - the 4th floor )
 - 1ª, 2ª, 3ª, 4ª... (in agreement with a feminine noun - la 3ª  pagina - the third page)

After 10, the ordinal numbers are formed by simply adding the suffix -esimo to the stem of the cardinal number, as you will see below.

2° - secondo
3° - terzo
4° - quarto
5° - quinto
6° - sesto
7° - settimo
8° - ottavo
9° - nono
